BLOG: Goodbye Alaska, you were awesome
Posted on August 12th, 2007by MastaG
It was an amazing trip… even though I worked my arse off (btw, did you know ‘arse’ or ‘darn’ are minced oaths?), I was out in the wilderness as much as I could be. On my final day in Alaska, I hiked Mt. Alyeska, an awesome ski resort near Anchorage. I took a tram to the top and hiked around for a few hours. I even hiked on the glacier at the top, or what’s left of it, because global warming has claimed nearly 90% of it in the past 10 years or so. I also went to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and checked out some bears and other local animals.
Me, and my bitchin’ Tiley hat, at the top of Mt. Alyeska:
At the top of Mt. Alyeska, I found what looked holes dug by an animal… but not animals around. So I sat completely still for about 5 minutes, and prairie dogs came out and started feeding on the grass around me. I snagged a few pics of these little dudes before they realized I was there, and they made a yelping noise and scurried back into their holes.

Bear at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center:

And finally, a parting shot from the plane. This was deep in the high mountains, as you can tell from the thick snow cover:
So I’m home… and I wish I was still in Alaska ![]()
